The Improving Mathematical Problem Solving in Grades 4 Through 8 IES Practice Guide, developed by the What Works Clearinghouse, provides 5 recommendations to support the mathematical problem skills of students in grades 4-8. IES recently (July, 2017) released Improving Mathematical Problem Solving in Grades 4 through 8: Instructional Tips Based on the Educator's Practice Guide to provide a set of tips to help educators translate the recommendations identified in the IES Practice Guide into actions and approaches to use with students. Improving Mathematical Problem Solving in Grades 4 through 8: Summary of Evidence for Instructional Tips Based on the Educator's Practice Guide examines the research evidence supporting the actions identified in the Instructional Tips booklet.
