Kindergarten and First Grade

The kindergarten and first grade TEMI-O 3.0 contain one test each: Mathematics Problem Solving (MPS), which assesses content in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

MPS contains 20 items that assess number, operation, and quantitative reasoning; patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking; geometry and spatial reasoning; measurement; probability and statistics; and underlying processes and mathematical tools. The teacher reads aloud the directions for each test item. For most items, students have 10 seconds to select their answer from three possible responses. Students have 25–30 seconds to complete items marked with an asterisk in the administration instructions. TEMI-O 3.0 testing usually can be conducted in 1 day.

Second Grade

The second grade TEMI-O 3.0 consists of two tests: Mathematics Problem Solving (MPS) and Computation (C). Testing should be conducted over 2 consecutive days, with MPS administered on the first day and C administered the next day.

Mathematics Problem Solving (MPS): The MPS measure contains 22 items that assess number, operation, and quantitative reasoning; patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking; geometry and spatial reasoning; measurement; probability and statistics; and underlying processes and mathematical tools. The teacher reads aloud the directions for each test item. For most items, students have 10 seconds to select their answer from four possible responses, the last of which being “Not Shown.” Students have 25–30 seconds to complete items marked with an asterisk in the administration instructions.

Computation (C): The Computation test contains 31 items that assess addition and subtraction (with and without regrouping) and early multiplication and division skills. Students are given 30 minutes to complete the items.
