The TEMI-PM consists of four group-administered measures that focus on number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. Each test is a measure of fluency, in which the student is given 2 minutes to complete as many items as possible. Total testing time across all four measures, including distribution and collection of tests and administration procedures, is usually less than 30 minutes. The tests are designed for classroom teachers to administer them.

The kindergarten TEMI-PM includes the following subtests:

  • Magnitude Comparisons (MC): Students circle the greater of two numbers (from 0 to 20), or both numbers if they are equal, that appear side-by-side in a box, separated by a dotted line.
  • Number Identification (NID): Students select from four possible responses the total number of squares (from 1 to 20), arranged in rows of up to five squares per row.
  • Number Sequences (NS): Students select from four possible responses the missing number in a three-number sequence (from 0 to 20). The missing number may be the first, second, or third number.
  • Quantity Recognition (QR): Students select from six possible responses the numeral that shows the total of randomly placed dots (from 1 to 6), clustered near one another.

The first grade and second grade TEMI-PM include the following subtests:

  • Magnitude Comparisons (MC): Students circle the lesser of two numbers (from 0 to 99), or both numbers if they are equal, that appear side-by-side in a box, separated by a dotted line.
  • Number Sequences (NS): Students select from four possible responses the missing number in a three-number sequence (from 0 to 99). The missing number may be the first, second, or third number.
  • Place Value (PV): Students select from four possible responses the number shown by pictures of base ten blocks, grouped into hundreds, tens, and ones (from 1 to 99).
  • Addition/Subtraction Combinations (ASC): Students compute and write their answers to addition and subtraction facts (from 0 to 18), arranged in eight rows of five items each.
